By Road:

Although Vancouver Island is 460 kilometers ( 286 miles ) in length from North to South ( almost the length of Ireland ) it is only 50 - 80 kilometres (31 - 50 miles) in width. It is almost impossible to get lost as there is only one major highway ( #19 ) that runs the length of the east coast and another highway ( #4 ) that connects to the scenic west coast of the island.
From Victoria, Nanaimo or Port Hardy take highway #19 and for a slower but scenic alternative connecting some of the smaller communities, try highway # 19A. Enjoy!
